Many parents are pleased when their teens get their license, relieving them of their driving duties. Teens enjoy their newfound freedom too, now able to transport themselves to and from school, sports and other activities. While there’s no replacement for time spent behind the wheel, teens can benefit from our auto body technicians’ experience. The Burns Chevrolet Service Center has compiled some tips about car maintenance to keep teens’ vehicles running right – and to keep them safe on the road! Read on to learn more, and be sure to share these helpful tips with your teen driver! Important Preventative Car Maintenance Tire Care Tires play a major role in your vehicle’s performance, so it’s important to check their pressure at least once a month. This ensures responsive handling and braking, no matter the road conditions. Tire rotations are also a key component of routine maintenance to keep tire tread wearing evenly. It may also be a good idea to make sure that your teen knows how to change a tire. Show them how to use a jack, remove the old tire and replace it with a spare. Oil Changes Regular oil changes keep your engine properly lubricated and prevent it from overheating. Because dirt and debris can slow your engine down, replacing old oil with fresh oil helps maintain peak performance. Plus, your teen will save money at the pump! Brake Inspections A vehicle’s brakes are its most important safety feature. Be sure that your teen knows the signs indicating excessive wear and tear, so that brakes can be replaced before it's too late. Warning signs include screeching, grinding, or any other abnormal noises. Car Battery Checks A quick battery check is all that’s required to check for corrosion or damage, and to make sure the battery is not expired. It is also smart to teach your teen driver how to jumpstart their car in case of emergencies. Warning Signs That Something Is Wrong With Your Vehicle Catching issues before they become major problems is important, so be sure your teen recognizes the warning signs. These signs mean it's time to schedule an appointment at your local Burns Chevrolet Service Center!
