Neutral paint colors, such as black, white and gray take the top spots. While these are the most commonly sold, BASF’s 2020-2021 Automotive Color Trends report predicts the following hues to continue growing in popularity:

  • Dark seltzer: This color, a shade of gray, is now the “new normal,” according to BASF’s trend report.
  • Redolent red: The reddish-brown color looks great on a variety of vehicles.
  • Abstraction blue:  Considering that blue is rising in popularity, it comes as no surprise that more consumers are choosing it.

These paint colors are bold – without being too bright or flashy. Drivers agree that they accentuate the vehicle’s design, giving a subtle nod to the elements, like stone, ceramic and metal. A textured type of paint with a hint of shimmer is also becoming more common.

Here at Burns Body shop, we understand that choosing an automotive paint color is an important part of buying a car. In addition to your personal preference, consider the following factors:

Best Resale Value

Despite the fact that cars painted gray, white and black seem to dominate the roadways, these popular colors do not, in fact, earn top resale value. In its analysis of 5.6 million new cars and 700,000 used cars bought and sold between 2017 and 2020, iSeeCars found that the most valuable paint color is yellow.

This is likely because of the limited number of yellow vehicles produced, creating a higher demand. Beige took second place – and proved to be popular among pick-up truck owners.

Note: Having a professional paint job also impacts resale value. Get yours at Burns Body Shop, your auto body shop in Rock Hill! Our team uses only the highest quality of paint, ensuring every coat of paint is applied flawlessly.

Which Car Paint Colors Are Easiest to Maintain?

When choosing a car color – either for your new vehicle or to refresh your old ride – it’s also important to consider future maintenance. These tips are important to consider when selecting a color for your auto paint job:

  • Gray is a popular color partly because it is one of the easiest to maintain and keep clean. In addition to hiding dirt effectively, gray tones don’t fade as easily as red or black.
  • Black looks sleek when it’s spotless, but can soon look dirty from grime or water marks.
  • Red is eye-catching and stylish, but fades faster than other popular car colors.
  • White looks great but is just as hard to keep clean as black.
  • Yellow hides pollen but does not disguise more common debris like dirt and mud.
  • Blue, while becoming more popular, doesn’t do a good job of hiding dirt.
